Akanalçı family

The Akanalçı family is a Turkish family of business people founded by İbrahim Akanalçı, one of the wealthiest self-made people in Karşıyaka district of İzmir, Turkey. His grandsons, the fourth generations of the Akanalçı family, reside mainly in İzmir still today.
The first member of the family, who was known to use the name "Akanalçı" was Cemal Akanalçı, born in late 19th century. The name means "flowing plaster of Paris" in Turkish.
İbrahim Akanalçı was born in 1925 and died on November 22, 1999 in İzmir, Turkey was the first child of Cemal Akanalçı. In 1949, he married Gamze Erkızan. Starting trade in a very young age, he contracted various construction projects in Aegean Region of Turkey (including Akanalçı Apartments in Karşıyaka, İzmir) as an individual developer. He became one of the wealthiest people in Karşıyaka district of İzmir, Turkey. His son Nadir Cemal and his daughter, Ayşe Naz succeeded him.
Nadir Cemal Akanalçı (born April 25, 1950 in İzmir) is the first child of İbrahim Akanalçı. He graduated from Ege University, (Faculty of Engineering ) as an architect in 1976. After his graduation, he served in TAF as an officer for eighteen months in Polatlı, Ankara. He subsequently worked as one of the leading project managers at Petkim’s Aliağa Complex. In 1978, he established his first partnership company Formsan A.Ş. and successfully developed the residential quarters of Turkish Social Security Institution (SSK) in Konya. In following years, he correspondingly developed Turkish Agricultural Supply Coordination (TZDK) Offices and Sulphur Factory in Manisa, Turkey. From 1980 to 1984, he operated as an executive project manager for Doğuş Holding A.Ş. overseeing large-scale construction projects developed in Derna, Libya. In 1984, he established his second company Akanalçı Tur. İnş. San. ve Tic. Ltd. Şti. in Izmir, and successfully developed several projects locally. He has been married to Feryal Akanalçı since 1976.

Sedef Akanalçı (born July 24, 1977 in İzmir) is the first child of Nadir Cemal Akanalçı. She received her BSc degree from Hacettepe University after graduating the Turkish College in İzmir. She has been married to Dr. Ömer Ünalp since 2002.
Yiğit Akanalçı (born June 18, 1986 in İzmir) received his BA (Hons) degree from University of Hertfordshire UK after graduating from the Turkish College in İzmir. In 2011, he co-founded Akanalci & Maxa Global Services LLP in London, UK.
